My Korean Life

Get your own Korean name

Ever wondered what they'd call you in Korea? One selfie. One birth year.
One Korean name that's truly yours,
meaning and all.

Neutral names are given to both women and men. Your birth year picks names that were popular in your generation.

One clear face, looking at the camera, works best. We don't keep your photo or birth year.

A real Korean name, chosen for you

Most Korean names are written in hanja, Chinese characters that each carry a meaning, so parents choose them as a wish for their child. We do the same for you.

  1. Your birth year

We look only at names Koreans of your generation were actually given.

  2. Your selfie

Its overall feel, bright or calm, crisp or soft, picks how your name should sound.

  3. Your name

With the characters behind it and what they mean, how to say and write it, a name seal and a card to share.

Is it a real Korean name?

Yes. Names come from Korean Supreme Court birth-registration rankings and published name lists, and meanings are checked against the Unicode Unihan database.

Do you keep my photo?

No. Your photo and birth year are used once to pick your name and are not stored. The site sets no cookies.

Will I get the same name again?

Yes. The same selfie, birth year and name style always give the same name, so it really is yours.

How we pick your Korean name

Your selfie sound
We look only at the overall feel of your photo: bright or calm, crisp or soft. Korean names have a feel too, from their sounds, so we pick one that sounds like your look. Under 14? No selfie is used: you pick the feel yourself.
Your birth year generation
Korean names follow trends. You get a name Koreans born around the same time as you were actually given.
Name style your choice
Feminine, masculine or neutral: pick the kind of Korean name you'd like. Neutral names are ones Koreans give to both women and men.
The meaning
Each name comes with the meaning of its Chinese characters (hanja), the way Korean parents choose names.

We don't guess age, ethnicity or personality from your face, and we don't keep your photo or birth year. It's just for fun.
