In 2023, something exciting happened in South Korea’s scientific world. Researchers claimed they made a supercool material called LK-99, which could conduct electricity without any resistance at room temperature. Imagine charging your phone in seconds or having super-fast trains – that’s the kind of magic superconductors can do!

But, the Korean Superconductivity and Cryogenics Society, kind of like a super-smart science club, decided to check if LK-99 was really as super as claimed. Guess what? They found out that LK-99 wasn’t the super material everyone thought it was. Despite many attempts, no one could make LK-99 show these amazing superconducting powers.

In December, the society shared their findings in a report. They said, “Sorry, but we just don’t see any proof that LK-99 is a superconductor at room temperature.” They also mentioned that they didn’t get any LK-99 samples from the original researchers for a double-check.
